Around the world : Long-serving headteacher ‘killed herself after Ofsted rated her school inadequate’

Tragic Carol Ann Woodward’s mental health was said to have gone into “a swift decline” following the inspection, and inquest was told

A popular headteacher killed herself after her school was rated inadequate by Ofsted, an inquest heard.

Carol Ann Woodward, 58, hung herself in the garage of her home in July.

A coroner heard there was “a swift decline” in Carol’s mental health after an Ofsted inspection earlier the same month at Woodford Primary School in Plymouth, Devon.

Colleagues told police “substantial building work” was being done at the school to increase its population of students which had caused a chaotic environment.
DC Riley told the inquest: “The chaotic environment this caused coupled with the pressures of the academic year and the timing of Ofsted’s inspection triggered an immense amount of pressure on Carol.”

Mrs Woodward contacted her GP Dr Rosie Heath three times before her death, the hearing in Plymouth was told.

See the world’s second largest diamond in over a century discovered in Botswana

A high quality diamond said to be the biggest discovery in more than a century has been discovered at a mine in Botswana, said mine company, Lucara Diamond Corp.

“The magnificent stone, which originated from the south lobe of Lucara’s Karowe Mine, is the world second largest gem quality diamond ever recovered and largest ever to be recovered through a modern processing facility,” the company said a statement.

Shares in Lucara shot up 34 percent to 14.2 kronor in morning Thursday trading in Stockholm after news of the 1,111 carat gem was made public. Botswana is the world’s second biggest diamond producer, and Lucara said the gem was the largest ever to be recovered in the country.

“The significance of the recovery of a gem quality stone larger than 1,000 carats, the largest for more than a century….cannot be overstated,” said William Lamb, the President and chief executive of Lucara. The stone is yet to be evaluated, but commodities and mining analyst Kieron Hodgson, said it has “the potential to be one very expensive diamond.” Valuation will depend on potential inclusions, how it would behave in cutting, optimal shape as well as final colour,” he told AFP. “All these things will need to be evaluated prior to bidding.” he added.

Health : Ever hold your poo in? This is why you should never delay toilet time

Oya go use the toilet now!!!  😮😁😁😯
Delaying defecation could have dire consequences, according to experts – and here’s why

When it comes to doing a number two, lots of people prefer to wait until they’re in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of their own home.

Many are willing to spend hours stifling the urge to answer that call of nature.

But delaying defecation could be far more dangerous than you think.

In fact, some experts are warning that, as well as the obvious discomfort, in extreme cases holding a poo in for a lengthy period of time could even result in death.

Those who repeatedly put off going to the loo run the risk of developing a dysfunction in the muscle used for pooing, say researchers.

In worst case scenarios, people can suffer an impacted bowel – when an immobile mass of faeces builds up in the rectum, resulting in chronic constipation.

Left untreated, an impacted bowel can require surgery or even kill, experts warn.

In a Discovery News video released this week, Amy Shira Teitel explains all.

She says: “You might be on a plane and choose to hold in instead of braving the aeroplane toilets.

Shocking study reveals how much sex couples need to stay happy – and it’s not what you expect

The findings challenge the popular notion that when it comes to sex, the more you have the better

A new study has found that couples are at their happiest when they are having sex just ONCE-a-week.

Research suggests that those who hop into bed more frequently get no noticeable benefit from it – in terms of a stable relationship.

The findings, from research conducted by the University of Toronto-Mississauga in Canada, challenge the popular notion that when it comes to sex, the more you have the better.

Scientists analysed data collected at three time points over 14 years from more than 2,400 married couples in the US.

Couples reported increasing satisfaction with their relationships as sexual frequency increased up to once a week. Having sexmore often than that showed no noticeable benefit.
