Johannesburg: Two people were killed and 20 injured when scaffolding for a bridge collapsed over Johannesburg’s main motorway on Wednesday, sending the share price of construction group Murray & Roberts, the contractor behind the project, tumbling.
The company’s share price fell more than 7 per cent in late trade to 11.15 rand after news of the tragedy broke. “Murray & Roberts can confirm that this afternoon, a support structure that was erected to enable the construction of a pedestrian bridge … collapsed,” the firm said in a statement.
“The exact cause of the incident is not known at this time. All of our incident response procedures have been initiated, our support services have been mobilised and relevant authorities have been advised.”
Puerto Rico seizes $12M worth of cocaine abandoned at sea
San Juan — Authorities in Puerto Rico say they have seized $12 million worth of cocaine found floating in waters off the U.S. territory’s southeast coast.
Police said Tuesday that the drugs were found near an abandoned boat close to the town of Arroyo.

As the ministerial screening processcontinues at the Senate, lovers of sports all over Nigeria are beginning to speculate on who becomes the next sports minister.
Sports fans especially football lovers are already making permutations that former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola or ex-Senate sports committee chairman, Heineken Lokpobiri, may emerge as the new sports minister.
The ex-Lagos state governor was screened today October 14 on the floor of the national assembly. However, Lokpobiri is expected to take his screening turn on the floor of the red chamber anytime soon.
FA bans Mourinho
Jose Mourinho has been given a one-match stadium ban and fined £50,000 after he admitted a breach of FA Rules in relation to post-match media comments.
The Chelsea manager was charged for misconduct following the game against Southampton on Saturday 3 October 2015.
It was alleged his remarks constituted improper conduct in that they alleged and/or implied bias on the part of a match official or match officials and/or brought the game into disrepute.

Former NBA star Lamar Odom fighting for his life after being found unconscious
Former NBA and reality TV star Lamar Odom was hospitalized Tuesday after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel, authorities said.
A source told ESPN that Odom is fighting for his life and “the next 48 hours are critical.”
The Nye County Sheriff’s Department will hold a press conference at 7 p.m. ET to provide an update on the situation. Sheriff Sharon A. Wehrly said in a statement Tuesday that authorities were called at about 3:15 p.m. to Love Ranch in Crystal, Nevada, about 70 miles outside of Las Vegas, for a report of an unresponsive man needing an ambulance.
Odom, 35, was stabilized and taken to Desert View Hospital in nearby Pahrump, the statement said. Officials then tried to have him airlifted to Las Vegas, but the 6-foot-10 Odom was too tall for the helicopter that was available, so he was driven by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Celebrity media personality Toke Makinwa has finally responded to rumours surrounding her marriage troubles with Maje Ayida.

Makinwa, a radio personality with Rhythm 93.7 Lagos, made the statement in an interview with Hip TV.
She said: “Just wait and see and watch and see, I mean, there’s nothing to say. That part of my life is not open for discussion.”
The couple’s marital troubles in June became a subject for media gossip after news leaked of Ayida’s infidelities.
Ayida had reportedly impregnated his ex-lover not long after his wedding to Makinwa. The radio host soon took to her social media accounts to delete all his pictures.
On July 22, Ayida issued a public apology to Makinwa to which she did not reply or react publicly, increasing speculation on the status of their marriage.
