NDLEA arrests suspected drug baron, seizes 576kg of narcotics
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested a suspected drug baron, Tochukwu Ubah, alleged to be coordinating a large volume of methamphetamine and ephedrine distribution in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mitchell Ofoyeju, Head, Public Affairs, NDLEA, in Lagos on Sunday.
The statement said Mr. Ubah was arrested by the agencyâs Special Enforcement Team, SET, at the old local section of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos upon arrival from Enugu.
âHe was apprehended after intense undercover operations in connection with illegal exportation of 576kgs of narcotics to Durban, South Africa through Apapa Port.
âThe drug made up of 266kg of methamphetamine and 310kgs of ephedrine valued at N4.6 billion were hidden inside noodles, cereals and palm oil,â it said.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations by the NDLEA revealed that the suspect is also known as Etochukwu Alaek Weubah and Eto Ubah.
It alleged that the 42-year-old had a company, Visoch Resources Limited, which he used as a cover for his clandestine drug business.
The statement said: âAlthough the surveillance report indicates that he is a major player in drug smuggling, Ubah hides under the cover of floor tile business.

The court heard the pensioner concealed â¬20, small packages of cocaine and heroin, and tranquilizers, inside the plastic casing of a Kinder egg in July 2013.
It is said she then smuggled the stash into Fontcalent prison by wrapping the Kinder egg in a condom and inserting it into her vagina.

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the elusive Mexican drug kingpin who escaped from a high security prison in July, was injured in his leg and face during a “headlong flight” as authorities recently closed in on his mountain hideout, Mexico’s National Security Cabinet confirmed in a statement late Friday.
The government said Guzman was not wounded in a direct confrontation with law enforcement agencies but during a hasty retreat as Mexican Marines moved to surround his location. Guzman is known by the nickname “El Chapo” or, in English, “Shorty.”
he brief statement came in response to a report from NBC News that Guzman he had been hurt while evading capture last week.
The statement by Mexicoâs security Cabinet provided no details on when or exactly where the operation took place. It said only that information-sharing with international agencies had led authorities to zero in on Guzman in northwestern Mexico.
